Bern Historical Museum
At this Museum visitors can see a broad range of exhibits relating to the history of the City dating from prehistory onwards, along with international objects. Among the interesting displays to see are ethnographical collections from around the world, from ancient times to contemporary, including North America, Oceania, Asia and Africa and include religious art, costumes, jewellery and sculptures, and you can also see a large collection of coins.
This historic Cathedral was built from the 15th century in Gothic style, and is the Country’s tallest cathedral. You can visit the Cathedral and see its beautiful features which include the impressive and detailed Last Judgement sculptures located over the main portal, the vaulted ceiling, huge colourful stained glass windows and intricately carved choir stalls.
Museum of Fine Arts Bern
Here you can see many varied works of art including paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs. Among the works to be seen at the Museum are those by artists including Edouard Manet, Salvador Dali, Paul Klee, Gustave Courbet and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
Natural History Museum
Visitors to this Museum can see a varied range of animals and dioramas of their natural habitats, including Nordic animals, and those from Africa and Asia, as well as native animals and birds. Among the other exhibits, you can also see collections animal skeletons, minerals and meteorites.
You can visit this Bear Park, which is located on a slope by the River Aar, and see the lovely bears here. Visitors can have a guided tour and learn about the keeping of bears in the City, and see the former Bear Pit which used to house bears, but has since been replaced by this bigger Bear Park that has more natural open space for the bears.
The Zentrum Paul Klee
This is a Museum relating to the 20th century Swiss artist, Paul Klee, and his works, and his housed in an innovative building designed by Renzo Piano, which resembles three hills. The Museum is also host to regular performances including music concerts and theatre, along with other various events.
The Botanical Garden
Here visitors can see a wide variety of plants from across the world. Some of the features to enjoy here are the Alpine Garden with alpine plants from across Europe as well as North America and Asia. There’s also a Forest Garden with a pond and fountain, an arboretum, and glasshouses which include a range of different tropical plants, and also in the Garden are many colourful butterflies, along with a variety of bird species.
