Irchester Country Park
This Country Park is located in what used to be a quarry for extracting ironstone and is now a lovely Park with meadows and woods to enjoy, and with a number of trails to follow. There’s plenty of wildlife to see as you walk through the Park, such as squirrels and muntjac deer, and perhaps stop for a picnic or even a BBQ in one of the provided areas, or if not, there’s a cafe to visit. Visitors can also have a go at orienteering, and there’s also the Irchester Narrow Gauge Railway Museum to visit where you can see a number of steam and diesel locomotives which are demonstrated on certain days, and the Park also has a play area for children.
Located in Irchester Country Park, this is an enjoyable outdoor woodland course with many activities to take part in such as zip lines, tarzan swings and cargo nets and is suitable for any age above four, and all abilities. It’s a great way to have fun with exciting activities and enjoy the fresh air and woodland surroundings at the same time.
Sywell Aviation Museum
Close to Wellingborough, you can learn about the aviation history of the county and Sywell Aerodrome at this Museum, where there are Nissen Huts, some of which used to be POW Camp Huts based in Derbyshire and the others are former Second World War bomb fusing sheds. You can see collections including cockpit exhibits, a POW exhibition as well as a Hawker Hunter aircraft.
Here you can have an exciting game of laser tag, where you attempt to shoot your opponents with lasers. The centre has a large arena with a number of fun features including fog effects and colourful lights, and all ages from seven and over can come and have a game.
This is a great outside activity centre for all the family located a short distance away in the Nene Valley, with attractive scenery and a nature reserve. Activities here include an adventure playground with activities made of wood including a climbing frame and huge slide, along with a moat and water wheels, providing lots of water fun for kids. There’s also an assault course and during the summer you can enjoy a range of boating activities including kayaking and pedalos. There are cycle paths around the park, along with Heritage and Sculpture trails, and you can enjoy the wildlife here with many bird species to be seen, including teals, moorhens and redshanks.
