Low Parks Museum
Situated in historic buildings, this Museum shows visitors the history of the South Lanarkshire region with interesting displays and collections. You can learn about the life of the people here including their farming, the coal mines and weaving. There’s a display about the grand Hamilton Palace, home of the Hamiltons from the 16th century, which had to be demolished in the 20th century. Other exhibits include a Bronze Age skeleton, a historic weaving loom and there’s also a collection about the Cameronian (Scottish Rifles) Regiment from this area, which includes medals, banners, uniforms and swords.
This 19th century Mausoleum is situated in the grounds of the former Hamilton Palace and was the former burial place of 10th Duke of Hamilton and his ancestors. Visitors can come and see the splendid classical style domed building and you can experience the exceptionally long echo inside the building.
Chatelherault Country Park
You can visit this huge Country Park to enjoy the beautiful parkland and woods and explore the scenery. Situated in the Park is an elegant hunting lodge built in the 1700’s, and there are many routes you can take for cycling or walking to explore the Park, and perhaps have a picnic while you’re there. There’s an adventure playground with a range of activities for children to enjoy, as well as a Visitors Centre and a cafe.
Hamilton Water Palace
You can visit this Centre to enjoy a range of facilities, which include a swimming pool, along with a leisure pool with many fun features including river effects, flume, slide and a shallow pool for younger kids with its own fun features. At the Centre there’s also a fitness studio, a gym, along with a health suite which include saunas and a steam room. You can also enjoy a range of classes at the Centre and there’s also a coffee shop.
Hamilton Park Racecourse
For a fun day out, you could visit Hamilton Park Racecourse, where you can enjoy the thrill of watching the horse racing in an exciting atmosphere. While at the races, you can have a meal in the restaurant or cafe, and the Racecourse is also host to a number of themed meetings during the summer with plenty of entertainment.
