St. Andrew’s Church
This is a beautiful church built in the 18th century and situated on St. Andrew’s Decent. It is constructed in Baroque style with lovely decoration, a central dome and spires, and ornate Corinthian columns. Inside the Church you can see outstanding decorative stucco work and intricate woodcarving with floral decoration, cherubs and gilding. There are also beautiful paintings in the church and colourful iconostasis.
National Historical Museum of Ukraine
Housed in a grand Neo-Classical style building constructed in the first half of the 20th century, this Museum has a broad range of collections displaying the history of the country. Among the exhibits here are Stone Age tools and figurines and includes an ornate bracelet which is 15,000 years old and made from the tusk of a mammoth. Other exhibits include Iron Age and Bronze Age exhibits, weapons such as a 17th century crossbow, Cossack artefacts, religious icons, textiles, farming tools, porcelain, furniture, military uniforms and traditional costumes.
St Volodymyr’s Cathedral
You can visit this lovely yellow Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral built in the 19th century in Neo-Byzantine style, with attractive domes. The inside of the Cathedral is spectacular, with beautiful frescoes, murals and gilding all around the interior including the ceilings, with an abundance of colour, along with splendid chandeliers.
National Art Museum of Ukraine
Situated in an impressive late 19th century Neo-Classical style building, Visiting this Art Museum you can see an interesting collection of Ukrainian art works. Among the works are collections of icons from the 1300’s to the 1500’s, Baroque paintings and icons, portraits, landscapes, impressionist works and contemporary art.
National Opera of Ukraine
This National Opera House is a beautiful building constructed at the start of the 20th century and is home to the Kiev Opera Company, where you can come and enjoy a splendid opera or ballet performance in elegant surroundings. You can enjoy the grand interiors with lovely decorative plasterwork and chandeliers and have quality entertainment, from Don Quixote to Madame Butterfly and from a Tchaikovsky concert to Spartacus.
A V Fomin Botanical Garden
You can come and see a wide variety of plants at this Garden, which has many rare species to see in a tranquil environment. There are lovely displays to see including magnolias and rhododendrons, and the Garden also has greenhouses displaying tropical plants as well as sub-tropical, and you can see a number of palm trees which are very old.
You can come to this lively park in the City situated on two islands on the Dnieper River which you can get to by bridges. It is an artificial beach complex with lots of activities that you can enjoy such as boating on the water, having fun on the sand, with an open air gym and other sports, as well as a beach disco and restaurants.
